Back to School Committee
Start off the school year right for both the students and Moraine staff by helping to hand-out packets to students and parents in late August/early September. Stuff 1st Monday envelope packets. Make copies of needed papers. Staff volunteers for needed shifts. Plan any activities for the students return.
This committee is for those who like to be outdoors, don’t mind dirty hands, or just wants an excuse to run a power tool every fall and spring. Having a green thumb is not a requirement! Help maintain the Moraine school grounds. Schedule and recruit volunteers to help with the spring and fall clean-ups. Oversee the annual mulch spreading with the students and parent volunteers in the spring. Transform the grounds so that it can be maintained by a small group of volunteers.
**Both Beautification Team and Green Team work together to support Moraine’s efforts to engage our children in being thoughtful stewards of resources and their role in our community as contributing citizens, and maintain Green School certification through recycling programs, gardens (flower, pollinator, rain), and education.
Help select age and grade appropriate books for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders to discuss at book clubs by grade. Can be held once a quarter or once in fall, winter and spring and will typically meet during lunch/recess.
Books Books & more Books- if you love books as much as the children at Moraine then please consider chairing the book fair. We are looking for a team of parents (at least 3) to take over the book fair. Book Fair committee chairs set up the fair, run the registers, work the fair during class time & conferences and take it down at the end of the week. This team will work closely with the librarian to make this week amazing. Training/guidance will be available to the new committee.
Breakfast with a Buddy
Annual spring breakfast with students and parents/special guests. Promote event. Organize and purchase food, drinks, and serveware. Recruit volunteers to help hand out breakfast items. Set up and take down of Multi-Purpose Room.
Foster an inclusive Moraine community by helping families new to the school. Be point person to answer questions about the school, ensure the families are getting the necessary communications, i.e. ListServ, Facebook, Memberhub. Provide relevant information about the PTA and PTA sponsored events.
Family Night Activities
Plan family night activities such as family movie nights, game nights, spring daughter dance, special son event, etc. Secure vendors or businesses for events. Organize and oversee volunteers for the events. Create messaging to publicize the events. Collect participation forms and/or money from those attending events.
Be a part of the yearly Fun Fair festivities where the students and parents can enjoy a night of games, prizes, activities, and food. Committee chair and volunteers responsibilities include organizing food and drink options, organizing and running games and activities, selling and distributing tickets both prior to and day of event, set-up and take-down, and purchasing, organizing and distributing prizes.
Fun Run/Physical Fitness Month
Volunteer at annual race held in May. Encourage runners throughout race, hand out water, popsicles, monitor course and safety of students throughout a neighborhood race. Set up and take down the course and event tables and decorations.
Help make money for the Moraine PTA without asking for donations with Scrips, Krogers, and Busch’s rebates! Scrips is a gift card program that allows a certain percentage of the gift card sale to come back to the school. Advertise the Scrips program, collect money, then distribute gift cards. Encourage the community to designate Moraine Elementary on their Kroger and Busch’s account.
Utilize that creative spirit! Create necessary graphics to be used on Facebook, newsletter, and other PTA related material or events.
Junior Enrichment Series
The Junior Enrichment Series or JES is a PTA funded program that is designed to bring activities into the school through workshops and other medium that enrich and supplement our current curriculum. Organize assemblies and guest authors for the students throughout the school year. Serve as parent volunteer at events.
March is Reading Month
Annual national celebration of March as Reading Month. Create materials to help celebrate theme. Participate in school wide activities in March that encourage reading.
Drive parent PTA membership to reach the Penguin Pledge goal for the school year. Provide updates to the executive board and Moraine committee on the status of membership. Ensure all membership status is reflected in Memberhub. Set up Memberhub to process Penguin Pledge and PTA fees.
Parent Lighthouse Team
Bring the Leader in Me and the 7 Habits home! The Parent Lighthouse Team is responsible for presenting the 7 Habits of Successful Families Workshop to parents in the fall. The intention of the workshop is to help establish a similar framework as the Leader in Me in the home that supports and implements the 7 Habits to create a nurturing and enriching family environment. Host a “Parent Coffee Talk” once a month to further discuss each of the 7 Habits.
PTA Grant Committee
Provide a way for the teachers and staff to make larger purchases of items to benefit their classroom and instruction. Oversee application and review process of grants. Review teacher grant requests once per year in partnership with the principal. Select and notify successful teacher grant applicants. Educate teachers and PTA membership on teacher grants selected.
The Reflections program is the National PTA’s cornerstone art program where students can submit an entry into any of the six art areas. Program runs from September to December. Register the school in the program. Advertise through word of mouth, Facebook, and weekly emails about the current Reflections theme, categories available, and any relevant dates. Collect submissions and secure judges to judges them. Organize a live exhibition to recognize all the submissions. Submit top two entries in each category to State level.
Robotics is a part of the FIRST® LEGO® League, which provides students with a hands-on approach to STEM learning. This program is open to 10 children who are 9 and up. Run weekly meetings at the school beginning in September to get the children prepared for competition in December.
Science Olympiad is an American team competition in which students compete in multiple events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Coach/Assistant Coach a team to build children’s skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Run weekly meetings at the school beginning in January to get the students ready for the district competition held locally in June. Help make science fun!
Plan and execute two events for the year for the school to give back to other organizations within the community or Detroit area.
Allow the students to show their Moraine colors throughout the year by helping with the Spirit Wear committee. Execute a spirit wear sale for the school in the fall and spring. Provide design options for approval by principle. Work with vendor to obtain pricing and schedule for printing. Promote spirit wear sale. Collect money from online and check orders.
Help show the love and appreciation for the amazing Moraine teachers and staff throughout the school year. Organize breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner items for teachers and staff during Fall and Spring conferences. Includes organizing volunteers to donate items or monetary donations. Set up and take down during the three days of conferences. Plan special activities for Principal Appreciation in October and Teacher Appreciation in May.
Keep the Moraine community up-to-date with important school information through Facebook and the Moraine PTA website. Regular updates to the Moraine PTA website and Facebook including PTA meetings, special events, school schedules, schedule changes, and other pertinent information. Monitor the Friends of Moraine Facebook content to include individual posts and pictures to ensure they follow the allowable content for social media and Northville Public School policies. Screen requests to ensure that members are Moraine family members.
Be a part in creating what students will have for years to come of their time at Moraine. The yearbook committee consists of a chair and subcommittee helpers. The chair will be responsible to organize, edit, create yearbook with support from Herff Jones rep. and subcommittee volunteers. Each volunteer will take photos, collect photos from parents, staff, and students, collect and upload 5th grade baby photos, organize and design pages. Set up online sales, order yearbooks, then label and help distribute at the end of the year.
